Beneath the skirts, it is the invisible ally of both prudent ladies and precious fabrics. This Victorian petticoat slips over the crinoline (up to 3.20 m in circumference) and protects the gown from the friction of the steel hoops.

And should a mischievous breeze attempt to lift the skirt? It ensures that nothing indiscreet disturbs propriety…
